Arlene Kelley is a Central Maine–based artist and graphic designer whose passion for art has guided her since childhood. Educated at the Maine College of Art and the Laguna College of Art and Design in California, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration, Arlene now produces original paintings and custom portraits from her home studio in Pittston, blending professional training with heartfelt artistic expression.
I am inspired by nature, and I paint because I love expressing visual beauty and color. It is part of me—who I am. It is what I keep going back to, even though my life often seems to be about other things. This is my true work, my True North. When I don’t know what else to do, I paint. It is my personal creative expression.
When creating art, I tap into a higher form of myself that believes in something more beautiful, bold, pure, and alive—that feeling of something wonderful just over the horizon. A feeling that there is somewhere to go, and when I get there, I will be better, greater, more than I was yesterday.
A feeling of inspiration—of tapping into something larger—where I can truly be made whole. It is like hope, only bigger. If I can share it with people, and someone connects with this energized feeling, maybe I have done my job.
